Introduction
I decided to do a blog to record my progress while playing snooker, mosly to record wins and losses but also over time could be interesting to see how my game develops, and note positives and negatives in the way in which i play. I'll also suggest others try something similar, as i would be interested to follow other snooker players progress.
So i think i'll start by discussing my previous two matches.
Last week I played a friend from work, he's consistantly at around a 12-14 break standard, as I would say I currently am. His highest break is 27, so i'm only just ahead of him with my 30 break!
We drew 3-3, with the 6 frames being played in around 2 and a half hours, which is relatively quick. It's also the worst i have played for a while, as it was really hot. I got off to a great start, with a 24 break in the second frame, i took a 2 frame lead. then the heat and dehydration kicked in and i lost the next 3 frames in a row, and was about ready to finish.
I pulled the last frame out of the bag and couldn't wait to get out really, wasn't in the mood to be playing. But I can take a lot of confidence in my opening two frames, i took my time and got my cueing back on track, something which has been suffering as of late due to lack of practice and too much football on the TV!
My positional play in this match was also, in the opening two frames, as good as it has been for a while. My mindset is also on track, as i am now regularly thinking atleast one shot ahead, which is a good sign for my game as i usually concentrate solely on potting or position. I'm also a lot more comfortable around the black spot, and can get good position in and around the black, and if i can practice this more often should be on track to beating my 30 break soon.
My most recent match i played a friend who has a much greater technique to my other work friend. however his break building suffers as he plays very little and is very, very safety minded! i think his highest break is around 20.
I won this match, 3-1, although the last two frames went down to the black ball and i could, and should have finished things off sooner. I wasn't pleased with my play, as i often ran out of position, or did not concentrate too well. My cueing was way off, and i could see it was shaky, something i NEED to practice to get back into shape, i'll do some cueing into a bottleneck i think, as i find it is the most effective way of keeping a straight cue.
We also saw Michael Holt at our snooker club, sitting down after what we assumed was practice. I had heard him and anthony hamilton regularly visited our club.
I'm not sure when i'll next be playing, so i intend to get at least an hours practice in this week, work on my cueing above all things.
